Mormon-L Sonnet, Limerick and Hymn Parody Contest

This page is not officially connected to the Mormon-L mailing list. And any similarity to official sites of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (some times called the Mormon Church) is strictly coincidental.
Latest News: Due to all the entries noted below, this page has reached the memory limit of my cheap editor, and so I have separated it into separate listings for sonnets, limericks and hymn parodies (with a few miscellaneous bits).

Late News: September 2003 saw a surge of entries in the limerick division and one lovely sonnet. See contents below. It is the response I have always expected, but never . . . well, you know what they say.
(Hope springs eternal in the patient human breast
Despite loves unrequited, debts not yet redressed.
I celebrate in song
A wait that's been too long.
Now-- what a show of talent! I am quite impressed.)

News: The 2003 contest started with a bang with four limericks from Ron Scott, including the one he sent last October. Apparently all date back to 1987.

Old News: Hurrah! Finally an entry! (The following paragraph is now wildly inaccurate, but I will leave it up for historical interest.) On October 8, 2002, Ron Scott submitted the following, with the implication that it might be original, in the midst of discussion of another Elder Scott's conference statement that the "repent and go" era was over:

There once was a good Mormon boy
who concocted a devilish ploy
with the bishop's sweet daughter
did what he ought-not-ter
and soon was rendered a goy

Even Older News: In its five (as of 2002) years of existence, the Mormon-L Sonnet, Limerick and Hymn Parody Contest has evoked a remarkably even response from the Internet community. That is, there have been no entries, even from Erin Silva, who was the resident poet while he resided there. But he's as good a man as any to dedicate this page to. There was once a question as to what to put on Mormon-L's official page, to which I responded, in vain, "I nominate a section on sonnets, limericks, hymn parodies and other poetry. So far Erin has been the only one willing to bare himself that much, but there is always hope that his example will inspire others."

Accordingly, [most of] the following are not submissions to the contest, but were posted in the process of soliciting submissions. If there ever is an entry, it will be [and has been] posted with the name of the author. [Careful readers are aware that entries are now pouring in. They are identified as indicated.]
